Both versions are currently running on Macintosh computers in multiple institutions, but the MIRC development team does not have Macintosh computers on which to test the installation process. This article is intended for administrators installing either version on a Macintosh. The older version, now deprecated, runs on Tomcat, a servlet container developed by the Apache project. The newer version, described in the MIRC article, runs as a plugin to an embedded servlet container in the CTP application. MIRC is a great way to establish contact with people from far, far away, enabling and empowering any user to absorb and better understand the similarities and differences between cultures, the importance of free thought, and the fun of making new friends all over the world.There have been two main versions of MIRC (which is now called TFS). If you're just here to chat, then all you have to do is launch the app, connect to a channel, and start discussing topics. You can even work with scripts and more advanced similar features if you'd like to add or remove certain aspects of your channel. A history list detailing previously accessed channels is made available at all times. The application's appearance can be slightly modified by including or excluding the menubar, toolbar, switchbar, and treebar.
The application includes a compact mode, for those moments when you'd like to do more than one thing at a time. You can even allow the app to pop up a favorites list on the screen, just as the program is launched. You can also add channels to a favorites list, also making sure you organize them for easy access. Judging by its name, one can get a rough idea about what is discussed on that particular channel. All one's got to do is enter a channel that usually begins with "#" a hashtag sign, and you're ready to go. This does not affect functionality in any way. Old school appĪlthough the program is generally friendly, its look is somewhat outdated. mIRC is one of the most popular clients out there, allowing users to select from hundreds of channels to talk to people from around the world. IRC or Internet Relay Chat has been on a constant evolution path since its creation in 1988.
